Mumbai: 72 hours after a life-threatening attack on a doctor couple aboard the Nanded-bound express train from Kurla Terminus, the Railway Police (GRP) have yet to identify or arrest the accused. The incident involved the snatching of a purse belonging to Dr. Deepali Deshmukh, who was traveling with her husband, Dr. Yogesh Deshmukh.
Despite launching an investigation immediately after the incident, the GRP has made no headway in identifying the attacker, let alone apprehending him. A senior railway police official confirmed that efforts are ongoing through analysis of CCTV footage and intelligence inputs, but no concrete leads have been found so far.
According to the Kurla Railway Police, surveillance footage from stations between Kurla Terminus and Bhandup, including urban stretches, is being meticulously reviewed. Confidential informants have also been engaged to trace the suspect, but results remain elusive. Eight GRP teams have been assigned to the case, yet none have been successful in either tracing or identifying the accused.
Meanwhile, Dr. Yogesh Deshmukh, who lost his left arm in the attack, is reportedly in stable condition and recovering gradually. Sources revealed that after her husband’s injury, Dr. Deepali Deshmukh managed to bring him to the roadside by herself and arranged transportation in a tempo to rush him to the hospital.
