Mumbai Crime: Fake Narcotics Officer Arrested For Extorting ₹40,000 In Airoli

Mumbai: Mumbai police have arrested a 28-year-old man, identified as Indradev Pandey, for posing as a narcotics officer and extorting ₹40,000 from a local resident. The Navghar police apprehended the suspect within 24 hours and also seized the motorcycle used in the crime.

According to Police, The victim, Vasant M. (58), was returning home from South Mumbai on Tuesday evening. While stopping to chew tobacco in Airoli, a man wearing khaki pants and black shoes, riding a Bullet motorcycle, approached him.

The suspect accused him of spitting in public and falsely claimed to be a narcotics officer. Threatening to take him to the police station, the suspect initially demanded a ₹68,000 fine, but later settled for ₹40,000. Trusting him, Vasant handed over the cash.

The fraudster then dropped him back at the same spot and asked him to wait, before fleeing with the money. The victim realized the fraud the next day after discussing the incident with friends and filed a complaint with Navghar Police. The police are conducting further investigations.
