Mumbai court grants NCP leader Anil Deshmukh permission to travel outside city
Anil Deshmukh, who is currently out on bail in two cases including a money laundering case, Deshmukh had sought permission to visit his constituency, which is also his hometown, Nagpur.
Mumbai: A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court has permitted NCP leader and former minister Anil Deshmukh to travel out of the greater Mumbai region for a period of four weeks. Deshmukh is an accused in a corruption case and secured bail from the Bombay High Court in December last year.
Deshmukh had made a plea through advocates Aniket Nikam and Inderpal Singh seeking the relief as his bail conditions necessitated that he attend the CBI's office on a particular day every alternate week. The conditions also require that he stays in Mumbai till the conclusion of the trial and not leave the area without the court's permission.

In his plea, Deshmukh had said that he had been steadfastly complying with the court's order and attending the CBI office every alternate day. As of now he has appeared several times, he said.
Further, the former minister had said that he is a native of Nagpur apart from being an elected representative from there. He urged that the court permit him to travel to Nagpur for four weeks so that he can maintain continuity is his social and family ties as also visit his home constituency. He said further that he also plans to visit his lawyers in Delhi to decide the strategy in the present and connected cases.
Special CBI Judge SH Gwalani permitted the plea and allowed Deshmukh to travel out of the city for four weeks.
