Mumbai Coastal Road Accident: Speeding BMW Kills 3, Leaves 2 Critically Injured; Driver Detained

Three people were killed and another was critically injured after a BMW car crashed through the Mumbai Coastal Road bridge and plunged onto the road below in the early hours of Sunday.

BMW Loses Control, Plunges From Coastal Road

The accident took place at around 5:20 am when the black BMW was travelling from Marine Drive towards Haji Ali. According to the Coastal Road Control Room, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, allegedly due to speeding, causing the car to fall from the bridge.

Three Occupants Declared Dead

All four occupants of the BMW were rushed to the civic-run Nair Hospital following the crash. Three of them were declared dead, while the fourth occupant was admitted to the hospital's trauma ward in critical condition.

According to media reports, two of the deceased have been identified as Shanay Gajjal, 21, and a 17-year-old boy. The third deceased, a male believed to be around 25 years old, is yet to be identified, officials said.

The fourth occupant, an unidentified man aged around 20, suffered severe injuries and remains in critical condition.

Police Probe Underway

Police have launched an investigation into the accident and are probing the circumstances that led to the BMW losing control and plunging from the Coastal Road bridge.

The Mumbai Coastal Road is a 10.58-km high-speed corridor connecting Marine Drive in south Mumbai to the Worli end of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link.
