The BMC will soon issue the work order for the beautification of Mahalaxmi temple precinct, the project for which then Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in March 2024 had allocated Rs 60 crore.
"The file is with the Municipal Commissioner for the administrative approval after which work order will be issued,” a senior BMC officer said. He added, "The work will be carried in two phases and the phase one includes project work costing Rs 25 crores. The funds have been allocated by state government. The objective of the project is to enhance facilities for the devotees."
The project includes beautification inside the historic Mahalaxmi temple, its premises and approach roads too. Some major works to be undertaken this project includes building a skywalk from the temple and crossing the connector from Akruti Parking to the temple, improving the connecting roads and pavements, pedestrian flow management, realignment and redesigning of stalls, decorative entrances, historic building illumination and laser lighting on approach roads among others.
As the Mahalaxmi temple is an heritage site, an approval was taken from the Mumbai Heritage Committee and soil testing has also been done before starting the work. The beautification work will be carried aligning with the traditional aesthetics of the heritage temple and providing enhanced facilities for the devotees.
