Mumbai: BMC Opens Dedicated CFC Counters Across Ward Offices To Streamline Birth, Death Registration And Certificate Corrections

Mumbai, August 6, 2026: Amid complaints of delays in registrations affecting several students and families, the BMC's Public Health Department has started a separate window at the Civic Facility Centre (CFC) in all ward offices for registering births and deaths and for making corrections.

New CFC Services Introduced

Online services at the CFC are available for child name insertion, birth/death certificate correction (for entries registered on the new CRS portal), conversion of old birth/death certificates into new QR-coded certificates, and marriage certificate correction.

The option of checking the status of applications at the CFC has also been made available. Thus, citizens will no longer need to approach the Medical Officer to follow up on their applications.

Earlier, citizens had to submit applications for birth and death certificates, corrections in records, and inclusion of a child's name in the birth certificate in person to the Medical Officer.

Status Tracking And SMS Updates

With the new computer system, citizens will be able to check the status of their applications and make corrections to their birth certificates in a timely manner.

In the next phase of the computer system, Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Bhide has directed that an SMS facility be made available to inform citizens about the status of their applications, the BMC said in a statement on Thursday.

Support For Overseas Applicants

A separate window has been made available at the Civic Facility Centre for applicants travelling abroad for education and other purposes. It will also be possible to convert old birth/death certificates into new QR-coded certificates. This follows a large number of applications seeking corrections in birth certificates for educational travel, foreign travel and other purposes.

The BMC has also clarified that citizens will be able to apply for the new format of birth/death certificate through the Central Government's Civil Registration System (CRS) portal for birth and death records registered before 2016.

"Such old records may require additional verification. Therefore, the processing of such applications may take relatively more time. Efforts are underway by the Municipal Corporation to reduce the processing time by making the process of verification of old records and records easier and faster," the statement added.
