Mumbai: 25-Year-Old Motorist Killed In Late-Night Wet Lease Bus Accident Near Shivaji Nagar Junction, Days After Kurla BEST Incident

Mumbai witnessed another tragic incident involving a wet lease bus just days after the Kurla accident. This time, a BVG Group-operated wet lease bus claimed the life of a young man late at night on December 14.

The fatal accident occurred near the Shivaji Nagar Junction Highway Bus Stop at approximately 11:30 PM on Saturday. The bus, operating heading from Shivaji Nagar to Kurla (East), struck a two-wheeler rider, resulting in his death.

About The Case

The deceased, identified as Dikshit Vinod Rajput, aged 25, was riding a motorcycle (MH-01-DD-6798) when he reportedly came into contact with the right rear tyre of the bus . He sustained a severe head injury and was immediately rushed to Rajawadi Hospital, Ghatkopar, in a police van. Tragically, he was declared dead upon arrival at 12:14 am by the attending doctor, Dr. Ramesh.

The bus was being driven by Vinod Aabaji Rankhambe, aged 39, and the conductor on board was Avinash Vikramrao Gite, also aged 39.

This accident raises fresh concerns about the safety standards of wet lease buses in Mumbai, as it comes within a week of another fatal incident in Kurla involving a similar vehicle.

The tragic loss of life underscores the need for stricter enforcement of traffic safety regulations and greater oversight of wet lease bus operations in the city.
