Moderate rainfall in Mumbai and suburbs for next two days: IMD

After a mostly dry climate over the weekend in Mumbai, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted cloudy weather with moderate rainfall in the city and suburbs while possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated places for the next two days.

According to IMD official, K S Hosalikar, while Mumbai remained almost cloud-free over the weekend, nearby regions like Konkan, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Dapoli, Sindhudurg and Goa experienced very heavy rainfall with some places crossing more than 200 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours.

However, for the next two days, the IMD has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall over most parts of Mumbai city and suburbs.

Meanwhile, as per data from the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), on Sunday the Air Quality Index (AQI) of Mumbai remained below the 20 mark and was reported to be 17 AQI, while on Monday, SAFAR has predicted, it could go even lower, around 15 AQI.

The lower the AQI value, the cleaner the air, while a higher AQI indicates a greater level of air pollution and health concerns.

According to Gufran Beig, project director, SAFAR, “More days of lower AQI (clean air) can be observed during the initial monsoon season over Mumbai due to high-speed winds over the coast."

Last Wednesday, Mumbai recorded the cleanest air day of this year with an AQI value of 13.

On Sunday, the minimum temperature recorded in Santacruz was 26.4 °C and the maximum was 33.6°C, also the relative humidity was 76%.

While Colaba experienced a minimum temperature of 26.0 °C and maximum temperature of 32.0 °C with a relative humidity of 89%
