Further tightening their screws on the drug mafia, the anti-narcotics cell (ANC) attached to the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) police, claim to have achieved a major success in busting a drug cartel by apprehending two people including the peddler and the middleman. However, the actual source of consignment is yet to be ascertained.
A patrolling team from the ANC led by Police Inspector Devidas Handore spotted a suspicious looking man loitering near the gas godown in the Shanti Nagar area of Mira Road on Sunday night.
After the person identified as Aafak Asif Syed (33) failed to give satisfactory replies to the questions posed by the police personnel, he was taken into custody and upon frisking was found to be in possession of eight grams of Mephedrone drug also known as MD worth more than Rs. 56,000.
His questioning provided further links which led to the arrest of the middleman Jaafar Asif Syed (37) who was found to be in possession of another 109 grams MD.
According to the police, the total value of the seized drugs is pegged at Rs. 9,01,820.
Meanwhile, an offence under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 has been registered at the Mira Road police station against the duo. Further investigations were underway.
