The Sahar police have registered an FIR against Sohail Hassan, 50, for allegedly attempting to travel to Abu Dhabi with a fake passport. He had obtained the passport from the Patna office using false personal details. The case was registered on March 1 under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita and the Passport Act.
According to the FIR, on the evening of March 1, Sohail Hassan arrived at Mumbai International Airport intending to travel to Abu Dhabi. At 5.00 pm, he submitted his Indian passport, UAE visa and boarding pass at the immigration counter for verification. He was scheduled to travel on IndiGo flight 6E-1401, departing at 7.40 pm. However, when the immigration officer examined his passport, he became suspicious as Hassan appeared older than the age mentioned (40) on the document. As a result, the officer escalated the inquiry to his senior.
Subsequently, the wing incharge initiated an investigation and discovered that Hassan had obtained the passport in 2022 from the Patna passport office. In the same year, he traveled to Thailand for a job but was deported back to India. In 2023, he acquired another passport using false personal information.
The immigration officer filed a case against Hassan at the Sahar police station. The police registered the case under Sections 318(4) (cheating), 336(2) and 336(3) (forgery), and 340(2) (forged document or electronic record and using it as genuine) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section 12 (fake passport) of the Passport Act.
