Navi Mumbai: Man booked for driving school bus in drunken state

It was a narrow escape for around 40 students of Indian Model School in Ulwe on Tuesday morning as their school bus driver hit an auto-rickshaw in an inebriated state. 

While no one was injured in the incident, the negligence of the driver and the school management has come to the fore. Later, a video went viral on social media showing the driver almost sleeping at the wheel even as school children were clueless.

The bus driver has been identified as Ashok Thorat and a case has been registered against him at the NRI Coastal police station for drunk driving among other charges.

Drunk driver hits rickshaw

The incident took place on Tuesday morning around 8 am when the bus was going towards the school located at sector 19 in Ulwe node of Navi Mumbai. The bus was moving towards the school when it hit an auto-rickshaw nearby.

School management says  

Uttam Jagdale, senior police said that the incident was reported to us and after the initial investigation, a case has been registered against the driver. “The driver has also been booked for rash driving and negligence,” said Jagdale.

While talking to the FPJ, an official from the school management said that soon after the incident was reported, the school representatives reached the site and shifted students to another bus.

“We approached the police after the incident. We are cooperating with the police in the investigation and also issued a notice to the transporter,” said the official.
