Maharashtra To Launch AI Policy As Part Of Drive Toward $1 Trillion Economy
Policy is aligned with the principles of National Cybersecurity Policy 2013 and the National Cybersecurity Strategy 2020

The Maharashtra government is poised to launch the state’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) policy, marking a major stride in leveraging AI to fuel innovation and economic progress. Information and Technology Minister Ashish Shelar has announced the creation of an AI policy taskforce, which will spearhead the development of the ambitious AI Policy 2025.
This initiative aims to establish Maharashtra as a leader in the growing AI industry, supporting India’s broader digital economy objectives. AI is expected to play a crucial role in driving India’s $600 billion digital economy, with Maharashtra’s contribution estimated at over Rs6 lakh crore. “The AI policy will boost this growth and help the state move closer to its goal of achieving a $1 trillion GDP in the coming years. Aligned with the Government of India’s IndiaAI Mission, the policy will build on the national framework while harnessing Maharashtra’s entrepreneurial strengths” said Shelar.

The BJP-Sena-NCP government, as part of its ambitious 100-day action plan, has also announced the establishment of the Cybersecurity Policy Taskforce 2025. The minister emphasised the government’s dedication to building a strong cybersecurity framework aimed at safeguarding citizens, industries, start-ups, academic institutions and government bodies. The Maharashtra Cybersecurity Policy 2025 is currently under development, reflecting the state’s proactive approach to addressing modern digital security challenges.
Maharashtra’s cybersecurity policy, inspired by India’s National Cybersecurity Policy 2013 and the National Cybersecurity Strategy 2020, will provide a clear plan to tackle cyber threats while supporting economic growth. The policy aims to safeguard IT infrastructure in government and semi-government sectors while boosting the cybersecurity industry. It will focus on innovation, skill development, and research, with active collaboration between the government, industry, academia, and citizens. This initiative marks the beginning of a new chapter in Maharashtra’s digital journey.
