Mumbai: Kalyan Government Railway Police (GRP) has filed a case of abetment of suicide in connection with the tragic death of 31-year-old Akash Harigovind Rai, whose body was found on the railway tracks between Vitthalwadi and Kalyan station. Rai had taken his own life and, before doing so, sent a WhatsApp message blaming a person from his neighbourhood.
Initially, the police registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and began an investigation. During the inquiry, Rai's wife revealed that her husband had shared a message on their family WhatsApp group before the incident, indicating his intention to commit suicide. In this message, he explicitly named a person from their locality as the cause of his despair.
Taking this information into account, the GRP police has registered a First Information Report (FIR) under section 306 (Abetment of Suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and is currently conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
