Mumbai: The month of Jyeshtha or Jeth, which began on May 13, is a spiritually significant period for Hindus.
May 16 is Ekadanta Sankashti Chaturthi or the fourth day of the Krishna or dark fortnight of the month. The faithful fast, do yoga, and worship deities during the month. Women fast for the welfare of their children. Sankashti means deliverance from difficulties and the fourth day of every Hindu month, the chaturthi, is dedicated to Ganesha. The day will witness crowds at Ganesha temples in Prabhadevi and Titwala.
On Thursday, May 15, Gautam Gambhir, coach of the Indian cricket team and former cricketer, visited the Shree Siddhivinayak Ganapati temple, Prabhadevi, with his family to seek the deity's blessings. Chairman and trustee of the temple, Sadanand Sarvankar, welcomed them.
Those who believe in astrology say that in the month of Jyeshtha, which corresponds to May and June, Saturn or Shani, the karmic planet of justice and discipline, influences all twelve zodiac signs uniquely.
Dr Gajanan Sangle, astrologer and vaastu expert, said that based on current planetary positions, Saturn has different effects on individuals. He suggested remedies for each rashi or the 12 zodiac signs during Jyeshtha.
