Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray on Wednesday raised serious concerns over alleged irregularities in the Subhedar Ramji Ambedkar Nagar slum redevelopment project in Worli and urged the Maharashtra government to take immediate corrective action.
Thackeray highlighted that the long-delayed redevelopment project pending for nearly 15 years due to the withdrawal of multiple developers has now finally begun but continues to face major challenges. “Over the last 15 years, four to five different developers have been associated with the project, but it’s only now that the work has started. However, for the past six months, project-affected residents have not received their promised rent,” he said.
He further pointed out that the original layout plan presented to slum dwellers, which was also mentioned in the government’s GR (Government Resolution), has been abruptly changed without notice. “Construction of sale buildings and even bungalows has begun without prior approvals, while the rehabilitation building for displaced residents remains untouched,” Thackeray alleged.
Raising questions about the transparency of the project, Thackeray added that approximately 70% of the land involved in the redevelopment still needs to be officially transferred to the government, and no clarity has been provided on this matter.

In the Assembly, Thackeray submitted the following key demands to the government:
Immediate disbursal of pending rent to all affected residents.
Construction should follow the original layout plan, where the sale building was to be at the back and commercial shops at the front.
Priority construction of shop buildings and their timely handover to shop owners.
Clarification on the pending transfer of 70% of project land to the government.
Thackeray urged the Assembly Speaker to direct the state government to take the issue seriously and initiate appropriate corrective measures. “This is not just about policy violation, but about the lives and livelihoods of hundreds of families. The government must act immediately,” he said.
