Amerigo Vespucci, a 93-year-old Italian Navy Sail Training Ship (STS), dropped anchor in Mumbai on its second circumnavigation of the globe that began in 2023 visiting 36 ports in 32 countries. Mumbai marks the 27th port of call for the full rigged three-mast ‘Queen of the Seas;, which launched in February 1931.
Its five-day stopover will strengthen ties with New Delhi and Rome. It sailed for 16 days across the Indian Ocean from Phuket to dock in Mumbai. “Vespucci promotes cultural exchange and fosters goodwill between Italy and other seafaring nations,” said executive officer Commander Tommaso Faraldo.
