DPS Lake Conservation Campaign Intensifies: Over 4,200 Signatures Submitted, Target Set At 10,000
The campaigners are actively engaging with colleges, local communities, and citizen groups to expand awareness and mobilize greater public support. The initiative aims to educate the youth about Navi Mumbai’s biodiversity and encourage them to take an active role in conservation efforts.

The fight to secure Conservation Reserve status for DPS Lake, Seawoods has gained further momentum with the submission of 1,202 written petitions to the Forest Ministry in Nagpur and 3,000 online signatures, bringing the total count to over 4,200. The campaign, which began on March 14, is now focused on reaching the next milestone of 10,000 signatures within the next ten days.
The signature drive serves as a powerful tool to bring residents’ concerns to the Forest Ministry, highlighting the deteriorating condition of the lake and its impact on flamingo populations. “ Despite being classified as protected wetlands, on-ground realities paint a different picture, with increasing environmental degradation threatening this crucial ecosystem. Inspite of regular clean up drives and monitoring by mangrove cell the wet land continues to face water blockage. The intervention of CIDCO needs to end and the signature campaign is expected to bring this to the notice of the ministry,” said activist Rekha Sankhala.
