Mumbai: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will arrive in Mumbai on February 27, as part of his official visit to India, which will run until March 2. During his official visit, Carney is also set to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi to discuss bilateral relations and economic cooperation. Carney’s visit comes at a crucial juncture in the normalisation of India-Canada relations, which had deteriorated sharply following June 2023.
Mark Carney’s Mumbai Agenda
According to an official release, the Canadian Prime Minister will arrive in Mumbai on February 27 and over the next two days, he will participate in separate business engagements, interact with Indian and Canadian CEOs, industry and financial experts, innovators, educators, as well as Canadian Pension Funds based in India.

After his Mumbai visit, Carney will arrive in Delhi on March 1. On March 2, Carney and PM Modi will hold delegation-level talks at Hyderabad House. As part of the agenda, both the leaders will review the progress achieved to date across diverse areas of the India-Canada Strategic Partnership, building on their earlier meetings in Kananaskis (June 2025) and Johannesburg (November 2025).

Moreover, they will also take stock of ongoing cooperation in key pillars, including trade and investment; energy; critical minerals; agriculture; education, research, and innovation; and people-to-people ties. The two leaders will also exchange views on regional and global developments.
Later in the day, they will also attend the India–Canada CEOs Forum.
India-Canada Relations
Relations between the two countries deteriorated sharply after the June 2023 killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar outside a gurudwara in British Columbia. Months later, then Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said there was "credible" evidence linking agents of the India government to Nijjar's death, an allegation New Delhi strongly denied. The dispute led to the expulsion of diplomats from both countries and a prolonged diplomatic standoff. In 2024, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) further claimed that Indian government agents were linked to violent crime in Canada, including death threats and alleged involvement in homicides.
