The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in collaboration with Mumbai – City of Film and the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCNN), has organised a Stakeholders Consultation on the Role of Film Industry in Mumbai's Economic Development. The event, to be held at Taj Lands End, Bandra on July 30, is organised as a part of Mumbai's designation as a UNESCO Creative City of Film in 2019.
"The BMC is committed to promote this designation among citizens and industry professionals in Mumbai. This seminar will bring together experts, practitioners and policy makers to understand role of creativity in sustainable urban development," officials said.
"Mumbai has earned this designation of 'Creative City of Films' due to its rich film legacy and contribution to the city's development. The network aims to use creativity as a strategic factor for sustainable urban development. Almost 300 cities worldwide that currently make up this network work together towards a common objective: placing creativity and cultural industries at the heart of their development plans at the local level and cooperating actively at the international level," officials said.
In August 2022, to honour Mumbai’s culture of storytelling and bring it into international spotlight as a member city of UCCN, the BMC had launched the Music Video Project, to make a video song about the city’s inclusive and diverse cultural heritage, reports say.In 2019, UNESCO designated Mumbai as a member of UCCN in the field of FILM and Hyderabad in the field of GASTRONOMY. The member cities that form part of the UCCN come from all continents and regions with different income levels and populations. They work together towards a common mission: placing creativity and the creative economy at the core of their urban development plans to make cities safe, resilient, inclusive and sustainable, in line with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
