The incident came to light when site supervisor Pramav Kesarkar, 21, a resident of Sewri and employed with the MTNL construction team, received a video in his official group from night shift supervisor Khalid. The video, captured on the morning of November 28 at around 6:16 am, showed a dumper truck (registration number MH 47-BL8299) recklessly driving over the bridge and colliding with the view barriers.

The driver, identified as Santosh Kumar Yadav, did not stop after the crash and fled the scene. Upon inspection, the MTNL staff found that 11 barriers along the bridge stretch from Atal Setu Sewri to Navha Sheva had been damaged. Each barrier measured approximately 2.18 meters in length and 1.72 meters in width. The estimated loss due to the damage is around Rs. 9 lakh.
