Ashwini Bidre Murder Case: Estranged Husband Urges Navi Mumbai Police Chief To Seek Death Penalty For Convicted Inspector

Navi Mumbai: Estranged husband of slain cop Ashwini Bidre, writes to Navi Mumbai police Chief, calls for immediate appeal, action against officers, and support for deceased officer’s family.

In the aftermath of the Panvel court’s verdict in the Ashwini Bidre murder case, that gave life sentence to the main accused police inspector Abhay Kurundkar, Raju Gore, the estranged husband of the deceased police officer, has written to Navi Mumbai Police Chief Milind Bharambe requesting to go for an appeal in the case for death penalty of the accused. The Panvel session court had asked Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner to grant him an audience to present key concerns regarding alleged negligence by investigating officers during the probe.

Gore has urged the police department to immediately obtain the detailed report of the verdict delivered by Special Public Prosecutor Pradeep Gharat and file an appeal in the High Court. He insists that only through such a move can the accused be handed the strictest possible punishment.

He also demanded strict disciplinary action under the Police Conduct Code against the officers who allegedly aided the accused. Additionally, Gore emphasized that the salary due for Ashwini Bidre from the time of her murder until her official retirement should be paid in full.

In his detailed submission, Gore called for action against former Police Commissioner Hemant Nagrale, in accordance with the suggestions made by the Court. He further requested assistance in securing Ashwini Bidre’s death certificate, which is still pending.

Gore's statement includes several other related demands, highlighting the emotional, legal, and financial struggles faced by the family since Ashwini's disappearance and confirmed death. 

"The names of the officers including the then Navi Mumbai commissioner Hemant Nagrale, ACP Prakash Nilewas, PI Kondiram Pophere had cropped up during the trial for their negligence. The court too observed the negligence and directed the Navi Mumbai police chief to take appropriate action against them. Even then, I have not heard from the police yet and hence I wrote to the commissioner myself," Gore added.
