What Is Kamika Ekadashi? Know Rituals, Significance & More

Kamika Ekadashi is a highly auspicious day in the Hindu calendar. The auspicious day is observed during the Krishna Paksha (waning phase of the moon) in the month of Shravan. Kamika Ekadashi, which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, will be observed on July 21, 2025. Devotees of Lord Vishnu consider this Ekadashi as a powerful opportunity to seek divine blessings, cleanse their souls, and move closer to liberation (moksha).

According to ancient scriptures, observing a fast on Kamika Ekadashi is believed to be more spiritually rewarding than performing grand rituals. It is said that devotees who observe the Kamika Ekadashi vrat with sincerity and devotion are relieved from past sins and are blessed with peace, prosperity, and spiritual growth.

Date and time of Kamika Ekadashi

According to Drik Pachang, it will be observed on Monday. The Ekadashi Tithi begins on 12:12 PM on Jul 20, 2025, and ends at 09:38 AM on July 21, 2025. Kamika Ekadashi holds great importance in attaining spiritual merits, washing away negativity, and moving towards a life of righteousness. It is also believed that performing rituals on this day pleases not only Lord Vishnu but also Goddess Lakshmi.

Rituals

On this auspicious day, devotees should wake up early and take a bath before Sunrise. Clean your home with Gangajal and wear neat and clean clothes. It is best to visit the Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi temple on this day to seek blessings. But if you can't visit the temple, you can worship the deity at home.

Prepare an asan and put a yellow cloth on it. Place the idols of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Offer flowers, panchamrit, bhog (kheer, fruits, and dry fruits), and recite Vishnu Sahasranama, Vishnu Stotra, Geeta, and finally perform Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi Aarti.
