Traders Protest Over Delay In Malwa Mill Bridge Construction In Indore |
Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Malwa Mill–Patnipura Traders’ Association on Tuesday staged a protest against the slow pace of construction work on the Malwa Mill Bridge and the recent death of a motorcycle-borne youth at the construction site.
In a show of solidarity, traders across the area shut down their shops and gathered in large numbers at Indore Municipal Corporation office during the public hearing session.
The protestors voiced strong resentment over the delay, saying that their businesses have suffered heavily due to the ongoing construction. Association president Manoj Somvanshi stated that authorities had initially promised to complete the new bridge within 100 days, but 130 days have passed and not even half of the work is finished.
“Our businesses are completely disrupted and the death of a person on the bridge has further angered traders. With the festive season approaching, we are facing huge losses,” Somvanshi said.
During the public hearing, additional commissioner Narendra Nath Pandey assured the traders that the bridge construction would be completed within 45 days and that work speed would be increased immediately.
The association also submitted a memorandum outlining the losses faced by traders, the safety concerns at the construction site and their demand for urgent completion.
Those present in the protest included association members Javed Hasan, Sujan Singh Shekhawat, Shubham Thakur, Gulshan Power, Yogesh Thakur, Mukesh Soni, Bunty Sharma, Anil Arora and Dharmendra Agrawal, among others.
