Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Sindhi community is set to celebrate its revered Chaliha Festival, a 40-day extravaganza of devotion, music, and dance, starting July 16, 2025. This grand festival honors Lord Jhulelal, the deity of water, and is a testament to the community's rich cultural heritage.
"Chaliha is a time for spiritual reflection, community bonding, and celebration of the divine," said Naresh Fundwani, Convener of Sindh Rakshak Sangathan. "We observe strict fasts, light akhand jyotis, and perform traditional dances and music to invoke Lord Jhulelal's blessings."
The festival commemorates the miraculous intervention of Lord Jhulelal, who protected Hindus from the tyrannical ruler Mir Shah. Devotees believe that observing the Chaliha fast and worshiping Lord Jhulelal brings prosperity, good fortune, and divine blessings.
During the 40-day period, processions will be taken out in various parts of Indore city, featuring the sacred Baharana Sahib flame, accompanied by devotional singing and dancing. "We will distribute sukha prasad to devotees and perform traditional Sindhi dances, known as Chej," added Fundwani.
