Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): As the air is filled with devotion and spirituality during the holy month of Shravan, devotees continue to flock to various Lord Shiva temples across the state.

One of the most famous Shiva temples, Ujjain’s Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple, recorded a footfall of over 29 lakh devotees so far, with devotees reaching the shrine from all corners of the country chanting “Har Har Mahadev.

The massive surge in devotees is also expected to continue during the month of Bhado as pilgrims offer prayers and seek the blessings of Lord Mahakaleshwar.

Highest footfall on August 3

According to the temple administration, a total of 29,28,349 devotees had darshan of Baba Mahakal between July 30 and August 6, 2026.

The temple witnessed heavy footfall as devotees from different parts of the country arrived in Ujjain during the auspicious period dedicated to Lord Shiva.

The highest number of visitors was recorded on August 3, when 6,13,849 devotees reached the temple for darshan. Before this, the temple recorded a footfall of 4,76,109 devotees on August 2 and 4,19,732 devotees on August 1.

The day-wise number of devotees visiting the temple during the period was:

July 30: 2,23,542 devotees

July 31: 2,79,841 devotees

August 1: 4,19,732 devotees

August 2: 4,76,109 devotees

August 3: 6,13,849 devotees

August 4: 3,17,331 devotees

August 5: 2,97,649 devotees

August 6: 3,00,296 devotees

The Mahakaleshwar Temple administration had made special arrangements for the large number of devotees arriving during the holy month.

Facilities for crowd management, smooth darshan, security and other basic arrangements were strengthened to ensure that pilgrims could visit the temple without inconvenience.

The Mahakaleshwar Temple is among the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and attracts lakh of devotees every year, especially during the Shravan month, which holds special religious significance for Shiva devotees.

The ongoing Shravan-Bhado period has once again witnessed a remarkable rise in the number of pilgrims visiting the temple.
