Khargone/Kasrawad (Madhya Pradesh): Former Union Minister of State for Agriculture Arun Yadav criticised the BJP government, calling it anti-farmer, during a tribute programme held on the 80th birth anniversary of former Deputy Chief Minister late Subhash Yadav at his native village Borawan on Wednesday.

Paying floral tributes, Arun Yadav recalled his father’s contributions to bringing Narmada water to farmlands and strengthening the cooperative movement in the Nimar region.

He alleged that delays in procurement at the Minimum Support Price force farmers to sell wheat, gram, maize and mustard at low prices. He said his family would continue to fight for farmers’ rights.

Former Agriculture Minister and MLA Sachin Yadav also paid homage and pledged to revive the cooperative movement in Madhya Pradesh. Congress leader Satyanarayan Patel highlighted Subhash Yadav’s role in strengthening agriculture and cooperative institutions.

Supporters gathered in large numbers to offer tributes. Organisers also held religious programmes, bhajans and calendar releases to mark the occasion.

Ancient Hanuman idol draws devotees

A centuries-old Hanuman temple near the banks of the Narmada River in Lakhan village has emerged as a major centre of faith, attracting devotees from distant areas. A massive flood reportedly destroyed the village long ago, leaving the area deserted, but a six-foot-tall idol of Khedapati Hanuman still stands as a symbol of its past.

Located on the Navdatodi route, the idol is carved from a single smooth stone and has remained unaffected by years of floods and natural wear. Devotees believe the idol holds miraculous powers. Visitors often note a unique feature: despite regular application of oil and vermilion, no permanent layer forms, as the vermilion gradually clears on its own.

The sacred Amrit Kund lies close to the temple, where sweet water flows throughout the year. Locals say the pond finds mention in ancient religious texts, adding to its spiritual significance.

Earlier archaeological excavations confirmed the remains of an old settlement, supporting claims that Lakhan village once flourished before floods destroyed it. Even today, large numbers of devotees gather every Tuesday and Saturday to offer prayers.
