Khargone (Madhya Pradesh): A 30-year-old man was left critically injured after a steel reinforcement bar (rebar) pierced his throat while he was travelling on a motorcycle on Wednesday.

The accident occurred in the city's Anand Nagar area, where two motorcyclists were transporting steel reinforcement bars on their bikes.

According to reports, Saddam—son of Ahmed (30), a resident of Anand Nagar, Khargone—works in the construction sector, specifically dealing with steel reinforcement and shuttering work.

On Wednesday morning, he was riding as a pillion passenger on a motorcycle with a colleague, heading toward a work site. He was carrying several steel bars in his hands, which he had balanced across his shoulders.

The front tip of one of the steel bars was bent, with its sharp corner pointing directly toward Saddam. As the motorcycle driver crossed a speed breaker and swerved to give way to a passing school bus, it became unstable. The sudden jolt caused the sharp end of the steel bar to pierce deep into Saddam’s throat.

A crowd of onlookers gathered at the scene immediately following the accident. Since the other end of the steel bar was quite long, bystanders at the site had to cut it down to size.

Alleged Ambulance delay!

Following the incident, bystanders at the scene called the '108' emergency ambulance service; however, the ambulance failed to arrive at the location even after an hour had passed.

After the injured man was brought to the District Hospital, a crowd of people gathered there as well. Throughout the entire ordeal, the injured Saddam continued to hold onto the steel bar that remained lodged in his throat.

He received preliminary medical treatment at the District Hospital before being referred to Indore for specialised care due to his critical condition.

Doctors stated that since the steel rod is lodged in the throat, there is a risk of severing the windpipe or food pipe during its removal; therefore, the patient has been referred to Indore to ensure its safe extraction.
