Badnawar (Madhya Pradesh): Due to unavailability of Aadhaar enrollment centres for children above five years in the town, parents are being forced to travel nearly 50 km to the district headquarters in Dhar to get Aadhaar cards made for their six-year-old children which is mandatory for admission to schools.
While Aadhaar cards for children below five can be made at the Janpad Panchayat and Mandi in Badnawar, there is no provision for children above five. According to school admission guidelines, children who turn six by September must have a Samagra ID, which is only generated once an Aadhaar card is issued.
Parents, along with their young children, travel early in the morning to Dhar, where they wait in long queues at the post office near Ghoda Chowpati. If they miss the token for the day, they have to return the next day, wasting time, energy and money.
Aadhaar correction centres in Badnawar witness daily crowds due to widespread errors in names, birthdates and addresses which happens as operators lack proper knowledge of Hindi and English.
Locals have urged authorities to establish Aadhaar enrollment and correction facilities at the tehsil level to ease this unnecessary burden on families.
