Long Hours On Feet Causing Heel Pain For Many: Indore's MYH Sees Rise In Plantar Fasciitis Cases; Over 100 Patients Reaching Every Month
Plantar fasciitis occurs when the thick tissue under the foot connecting the heel to the toes weakens due to pressure. This causes sharp heel pain, stiffness, and discomfort while walking or playing sports.

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Standing for long periods is leading to an increase in heel pain, known as plantar fasciitis, among surgeons, traffic police, athletes, and others. Over 100 patients visit Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital each month for treatment, and the physiotherapy department of the hospital treats 4–5 new cases every day.
Plantar fasciitis occurs when the thick tissue under the foot connecting the heel to the toes weakens due to pressure. This causes sharp heel pain, stiffness, and discomfort while walking or playing sports.
Experts at Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital warn that if ignored, the condition may require surgery. The hospital is treating the condition with physiotherapy, including ultrasound therapy and exercises to strengthen heel muscles. Dr Arun Patidar, a physiotherapist, said, "Many patients experience so much pain in the morning that they cannot place their feet on the ground. With proper treatment, relief is possible within 20 days."
The problem is more common in winter and affects people with flat feet or those wearing stiff or improper footwear. Women are also at higher risk due to prolonged standing. Dr Manish Goyal advised early treatment and wearing comfortable shoes to prevent complications due to the disease.
