Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The long-awaited road from Gangwal to Sarwate Bus Stand is finally moving forward as the Indore Municipal Corporation works to clear decades-old obstructions along the route. In a push for development, religious places and residents are now cooperating to remove barriers, ensuring the construction of this crucial road can proceed.
Following orders by collector Ashish Singh and municipal commissioner Shivam Verma, the superintendent engineer DR Lodhi has initiated the process of shifting religious structures that were standing in the way. This breakthrough comes after months of effort and negotiation, with many religious institutions agreeing to give way for the road’s expansion.

Residents join forces for progress
Alongside religious establishments, local residents have also been actively involved in the clearance process, voluntarily demolishing obstructing parts of their homes to facilitate the widening of the road. Parts of houses extending five to eight feet into the road’s path have been demolished, with some two- and three-story houses being affected. The demolition work was carried out with the help of poclain, JCBs and a team of workers.
While the road construction has faced delays for years, the latest efforts are aimed at alleviating traffic congestion on MG Road and Jawahar Marg by creating an alternate route. Once completed, this road will ease the pressure on these major roads, cutting traffic volume by half.

Continued work and obstructions to be cleared
Despite the progress, over 40 more obstructions remain along the entire stretch. Municipal officials say that these too will be cleared in the coming days to allow for uninterrupted road construction. The road project, which began seven years ago, had been stalled for several years due to the inability to remove the numerous structures encroaching upon the road’s planned width. There have already been significant clearance efforts in areas such as Machhibazar, Biabani, and Juni Indore, where over 80 constructions have been removed in recent years.
Local residents, however, expressed frustration over the ongoing demolitions. Some questioned why their homes were still being targeted for removal when the road had not yet been completed. Municipal officials reassured the public that the demolitions were being carried out in accordance with the master plan, with notices issued to affected property owners. The removal of these structures is essential for meeting the planned road width, ensuring better connectivity between the two major bus stands.
