Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The water conservation efforts of Indore have garnered high praise from the central government, as Ministry of Jal Shakti joint secretary Kunal inspected various initiatives under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan and Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan in the city and showered praises.
Kunal toured several key project sites across the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) area, including recharge works in the Silicon City area, channel cleaning of city ponds, treated water supply systems in the Regional Park and the MLD sewage treatment plant at Nahar Bhandara.
Accompanied by commissioner Shivam Verma, Kunal also visited revitalised step wells in Vallabh Nagar, Kila Maidan, Kamala Nehru and Sadar Bazaar.
Impressed by the scale and innovation of the work, the joint secretary commended the IMC’s efforts and highlighted the potential of the Indore model as a national benchmark.
“The water recharge shafts and rainwater harvesting systems being implemented, especially those supported through corporate social responsibility (CSR), are not only effective but replicable across India. Indore’s model can truly serve as an inspiration for other cities,” he said.
Verma briefed the visiting official on the city’s ambitious plan to connect 100% of households to rainwater harvesting systems in the near future. He emphasised the proactive role of both the civic administration and elected representatives in promoting water conservation and raising public awareness through multiple campaigns.
