Indore: Night Temperature Likely To Drop More; Icy Winds Intensify Chill

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The northerly icy winds, reeling the city for a couple of days, intensified the cold conditions on Tuesday. With this, the day temperature dropped by eight degrees Celsius in two days. Moreover, the night temperature too dropped by four degrees Celsius in 24 hours and recorded below 10 degrees Celsius on Monday night.

The maximum temperature on Tuesday was recorded at 22.1 degrees Celsius which was four degrees Celsius below normal while the minimum temperature was recorded at 9.3 degrees Celsius which was one degree below normal.

Officials at the regional meteorological department said that the minimum temperature will drop by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the next two days and it will increase again after January 10. The drop in temperature and cold winds forced people to remain under wraps.

With a drop in temperature, haze conditions also prevailed in the city throughout the day. The citizens woke up to a chilly morning with fog for the second consecutive day as visibility dropped to 400 metres on Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, officials at the regional meteorological department said that weather conditions would remain the same for a couple of days with the drop in minimum temperature but the temperature will increase after a couple of days.

“The cyclonic circulation over northwest Uttar Pradesh persists while a cyclonic circulation over Northeast Assam persists. Subtropical westerly Jet Stream with core winds of the order up to 135 knots at 12.6 km above mean sea level continues to prevail over East and Northeast India. The cyclonic circulation over the equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal extending up to 3.1 km above mean sea level persists. A fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect northwest India from January 10,” the MET officials added.

They said that the weather in the state is dry and humidity level may remain high due to which chances of fog and mist are high. Humidity in the morning was recorded at 97% while in the evening it logged in around 5
