Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) is set to open a new swimming pool at Nehru Park as New Year’s gift to city residents. Alongside the new pool, plans are underway to construct a canteen and gym at an additional cost of ₹ 1.70 crore.
The Corporation is rebuilding the old swimming pool at Nehru Park by demolishing it entirely and constructing a modern facility at the same location.
The target was to complete the project by December. Nandkishore Pahadia, in-charge of Corporation’s General Administration Committee, inspected the site and reviewed the ongoing construction work.
He stated that the new swimming pool is being built at a cost of ₹ 4 crore and final roof work has just been completed. The committee has now proposed building a canteen and gym adjacent to the pool.
A detailed proposal for additional ₹ 1.70 crore expenditure has been prepared and its approval is under process.
Citizens who regularly used the pool have been eagerly waiting for completion of its reconstruction. Pahadia confirmed that the work will be completed by the end of December and the inauguration will be held in January next year, officially opening it for the public.
Nehru Park, once known as Visco Park has been significantly altered under the Smart City Project. The Municipal Corporation has replaced most of the greenery with concrete structures.
