Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Dr Sanjay Dixit retired as dean of MGM Medical College on Saturday, handing over charge to Dr Ashok Yadav, superintendent of MY Hospital. Dr Dixit's tenure was marked by significant achievements, including the completion of the Super Specialty Hospital and the redevelopment of MTH Hospital.
Under his leadership, MGM Medical College became the first in India to have more postgraduate seats than undergraduate seats. During the second wave of COVID-19, his efforts enabled the introduction of a system to admit patients to private hospitals, easing the burden on public facilities. Dr Dixit has had an illustrious career spanning 37 years.
He completed his MBBS in 1983 and MD in Community Medicine, becoming the first in Central India to earn a PhD in the field. He was also the first in the country to receive a diploma in Health Systems Management from the USA.
A prolific academic, he has 140 research publications to his name and served as the founding dean of Ratlam Medical College. During the COVID-19 crisis, his modules on health sector reforms and national health policies were instrumental in guiding strategies in Ratlam and Indore. Meanwhile, many professors of the institute are reportedly in contention for the dean’s position at medical college.
