Indore: DAVV’s IET Designs Advanced Semiconductor Chip With Error-Correction Technology

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Unleashing innovation, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), the university with Grade A+ accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), has achieved a major feat in semiconductor technology.

The VLSI Group of Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) at DAVV has successfully designed and obtained a fabricated semiconductor chip -- an accomplishment that places the institute among a select group of Indian institutions excelling in this field. The chip was developed as a part of Tiny Tapeout, an educational initiative aimed at making the semiconductor design more accessible and cost-effective.

“Fabricated using Skywater’s advanced 130nm technology, the chip is designed to revolutionise data storage in semiconductor memory by enhancing the accuracy of the stored data,” said Dr Vaibhav Neema. “One of the most remarkable features of this new chip is its ability to detect and automatically correct errors in stored data, even if a bit is flipped during the storage process. This makes it particularly valuable for applications in satellite imagery, biomedical imaging and other data-intensive fields where precision is critical,” he added.

The next phase of the project involves rigorous testing of the fabricated chip by the VLSI group. Once validated, it will be made available for industrial applications, potentially paving the way for new technological innovations in semiconductor memory solutions.
