Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In a major breakthrough against vehicle theft, Bhanwarkuan police arrested a key member of a gang involved in stealing two-wheelers across Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Acting swiftly on a tip-off, police also apprehended four people who had allegedly purchased the stolen bikes and recovered 10 motorcycles valued at around Rs14 lakh.
The arrested accused, Bayar Raj Karma, originally from Barwani district, was currently residing in a hostel in the Pipliyarao area. He allegedly confessed to his crime and informed the police that he along with his other accomplices used to target expensive bikes to steal.
According to Bhanwarkuan police station in charge Rajkumar Yadav, due to rising vehicle theft incidents, a team was constituted by the senior officials for the arrest of the accused. The team was working on the instructions when information was received about a gang member.
The police team gathered more information and managed to arrest the accused named Bayar Raj Karma, a resident of Barwani district and the current resident of a hostel in the Pipliyarao area of the city.
The accused allegedly confessed his crime and informed the police that he along with his other accomplices used to target the expensive bikes to steal. They so far managed to steal bikes from Bhanwarkuan, Rajendra Nagar and Dhamnod in Dhar district.
A search is on for the gang members Laxman Baghel, Deepak Baghel and Sunil Baghel, all residents of Bagh area in Dhar district.
Four people, who reportedly bought the bikes from the accused, were also arrested. The buyers of the stolen bikes were identified as Rohit Vaikar, Golu Pawar, Yash Dawar, all residents of Barwani and Bhavesh Ahirav of Maharashtra. So far, 10 bikes worth Rs 14 lakh were recovered following the lead given by the accused.
Accused Karma allegedly informed the police that he was staying in the hostel and he along with his accomplices used to recce the area in the day time to steal vehicles in the nights.
After stealing the two wheelers, the accused sold and hid them in various places in Nashik (Maharashtra) and Sendhwa, Barwani and Pansemal. The police team recovered them from the places and buyers mentioned by the accused. During interrogation, it was found that the on the run accused may give lead to the police about 10 other stolen two-wheeler vehicles.
