Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): Charvi Mehta, a talented chess player from India secured the silver medal in the Blitz format at the ongoing 24th Individual World Chess Championship held in Goa.
The championship is organised from July 22 to 30. Competing in the wheelchair category, Charvi staged a remarkable comeback after losing her first three matches and finished second in the world.
Charvi’s performance in the championship has got widespread appreciation. In addition to her silver in Blitz, she continues to lead in the standard and rapid formats keeping hopes high for further medals.
Ujjaini Chess Association President Sandeep Kulshreshtha and Secretary Mahavir Jain shared that Charvi, a Class 10 student at Kendriya Vidyalaya has also been a three-time national champion in the women’s category at the National Para Chess Championship.
Her mother is an international Mallakhamb umpire and recipient of the prestigious Vikram and Vishwamitra awards, while her father is Dr. Ashish Mehta.
Charvi began her chess journey under the guidance of national player Jayesh Khatri and now trains with a team including Neeraj Singh Kushwaha, Omprakash Kanwal, and Arbaaz Khan. She also receives mentorship from senior chess experts across the country through online platforms.
Officials from Ujjaini Chess Association and sports bodies across Madhya Pradesh have appreciated Charvi's outstanding achievement and called her a symbol of determination and rising excellence in para sports.
