Indore (Madhya Pradesh): As many as 14 shops of the Indore Municipal Corporation are going to be razed from the Chhota Ganpati area of Indore, as per the orders issued on Saturday.

The action is being taken, as the shops were obstructing the construction of the Chhota Ganpati underground metro station.

The affected shopkeepers will be shifted to alternative locations at Nandlalpura and Maharaja Complex.

It is important to note that work on the Chhota Ganpati station has not yet started, even though it is part of the proposed 8.7-kilometre underground metro route, which includes 7 underground stations.

A meeting regarding the removal of these shops was held on Friday at the city bus office under the chairmanship of Kailash Vijayvargiya.

The meeting was attended by the municipal commissioner Kshitih Singhal, the mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav, and officials from the metro department.

₹43 lakh paid as compensation

The metro management has already paid ₹43 lakh to the municipal corporation as compensation for the construction cost of these 14 shops.

Now, the responsibility lies with the municipal corporation to shift the shopkeepers. After the metro shed was set up in Malharganj, some shopkeepers had already vacated their shops.

The municipal corporation issued notices to the shopkeepers only 15 days ago. As per rules, action can be taken only after a 30-day notice period.

Therefore, the metro authorities will have to wait for another 15 days before the shops can be removed.

Meanwhile, for the Bada Ganpati underground metro station, around 30 families living in the Piliya Khal area, which was creating an obstruction, have already been relocated.

These families have been given compensation, and after their relocation, the demolition of houses in that area has also started.
