Kolkata: State Assembly Speaker Rathindra Bose had written a letter to Ananya Birla, daughter of the industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla, while apologising for the insult that her grandfather Aditya Vikram Birla had to face in Kolkata.

Speaker recalls past incident

Bose said at an interactive session at the Bharat Chamber of Commerce that he was moved after seeing a video where Ananya Birla was serving relief materials to people at flood-affected Jorhat in Assam. He got deeply moved, for which he had written an apology letter to Ananya Birla for her grandfather’s insult in Kolkata.

“Aditya Vikram Birla was treated inhumanely in front of the GPO in Kolkata in the hands of trade union workers. After this incident, he never came back to Kolkata. The scar still remains,” said Bose.

Political reactions

Notably, even Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president and Rajya Sabha MP Samik Bhattacharya also condemned this incident several times before.
