Kolkata: Almost a week after winning Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA), Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha (BGPM) chief Anit Thapa on Wednesday met Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the state secretariat Nabanna.

Coming out of the meeting, Thapa said that he had invited the Chief Minister to be present during the oath taking ceremony.

“Mamata didi often visits Darjeeling. I have invited her to be present during the oath taking ceremony. Together, with the state government, we would like to develop the hills,” said Thapa.

It can be noted that BGPM had won 27 out of 45 seats in the recently concluded GTA polls.

TMC minister Arup Biswas said that TMC had always supported BGPM and would continue to do so.

“From outside TMC had always supported Anit Thapa’s Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha. Whoever becomes the chairman of GTA whether it is Thapa or someone else, TMC will always lend its support,” said Biswas.

After BGPM, another new party, Hamro Party started by Ajoy Edward won eight seats and Trinamool Congress had won five seats.

After the GTA results were declared on June 29, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also mentioned that TMC had made an ‘alliance’ with BGPM and also that together the hills will be developed.

However, Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) chief Bimal Gurung who had ‘boycotted’ the GTA election said that the results don’t reflect the ‘aspirations’ of the people.
