Uttar Pradesh: Communal Clash Erupts Over Playing Of Colours During Durga Idol Immersion In Mahoba; Visuals Surface

Mahoba, October 25: Tension prevailed in Srinagar police station area of Uttar Pradesh's Mahoba district when two communities clashed over the playing of colours during the goddess Durga idol immersion procession on Tuesday evening. Police acted promptly and detained three persons on the spot. Superintendent of Police, Mahoba, Aparna Gupta, said that a dispute broke out between two communities while taking the idol for immersion in the main market of Srinagar police station.

Prima facie it has appeared that colours were thrown on a person belonging to another community by a girl from the group of those going for immersion. "The irate man along with aides allegedly thrashed the girl which drew the attention of those going for immersion and they also intervened leading to a brawl," said Gupta.

"Based on eye witnesses’ statement, an FIR was registered against eight from which three have been detained and efforts to nab others are being made," said SO, Srinagar, Praveen Singh.
