Bhubaneswar: A day after the Bangalore-Guwahati AC SF Kamakhya Express derailed near Nergundi in Odisha’s Cuttack district, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) successfully restored normal train operations on both affected tracks by Monday.

In a statement, ECoR confirmed that services resumed on the Cuttack-Nergundi Rail Section by Monday morning. The derailment, which occurred between Kendrapada Road and Nergundi stations in the Cuttack-Bhadrak Railway Section, temporarily disrupted train movement.

Dedicated railway personnel worked through the night under challenging conditions to restore the tracks. ECoR General Manager Parmeshwar Funkwal personally oversaw the restoration efforts, ensuring a swift and coordinated response.
By 7:30 AM, the tracks were cleared for operation, and the Overhead Equipment (OHE) was fully restored by 7:40 AM. The first train on the "down line" passed through at 9:30 AM, followed by the resumption of "up-line" services soon after. The first passenger train, 22823 Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, passed the site at 10:25 AM.
Tragically, the derailment claimed the life of 22-year-old Suvankar Roy from Alipurduar, West Bengal. According to railway officials, he jumped from the train after the derailment. Several other passengers sustained injuries.
