Virudhunagar (Tamil Nadu): Six people lost their lives, and many others were injured in a tragic explosion at a fireworks factory in Tamil Nadu's Virudhunagar district on Saturday morning. Known as a hub for firecracker manufacturing, the district houses the majority of the state's firework factories.

TN CM MK Stalin Expresses Grief Over Incident
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for each bereaved family. The incident has reignited concerns over safety measures in the region’s firecracker industry.

The fireworks industry in Tamil Nadu employs approximately four lakh workers across 1,150 factories, with Sivakasi contributing 70% of India’s firecracker production. Despite its significant economic contribution, the industry has often been criticized for inadequate safety measures, leading to frequent accidents and loss of lives.
