Kolkata: Amidst the tussle between the Assembly Speaker Biman Bandhopadhyay and the BJP MLAs, the Speaker on Thursday revoked the suspension of seven BJP MLAs.

According to Assembly sources, following the verdict of Calcutta High Court, the BJP MLAs had submitted a motion on the revoking of the suspension in the Business Advisory (BA) committee meeting which was accepted by the House.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Partha Chatterjee said that they don’t want to ‘increase the bitterness’ for which the suspension order of the seven leaders was withdrawn.

The Assembly sources quoting Chatterjee also stated that the TMC secretary general said that the BJP MLAs should maintain the ‘decorum’ of the House.

The seven BJP MLAs who were suspended were Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, chief whip Manoj Tigga, Shankar Ghosh, Narahari Mahato, Deepak Burman, Mihir Goswami and Sudip Mukherjee.

Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari said that whenever the Constitution & the law are imperiled, the judiciary steps in to protect its sanctity.

“Buoyed by the strength of numbers, the ruling party tried to choke the voice of the Opposition through "disputed" suspensions. We approached the Hon'ble Calcutta High Court. It's only after the intervention of Hon'ble Court, we filed the motions & these suspensions were revoked,” said Adhikari.

Expressing joy, Manoj Tigga said that the withdrawal of suspension is the ‘victory’ of BJP.
