STF Seizes 10 Kg Heroin Worth ₹80 Crore In Guwahati, Punjab-Based Dealer Arrested

Guwahati, August 14: The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police seized 10 kg of heroin with a current street value of Rs 80 crore from a flat at Om Residency in Chachal, Six Mile, under Dispur police station in Guwahati, and apprehended a narcotics dealer from Punjab.

The operation was led by Additional SP (STF) Kalyan Pathak.

The STF received information that a narcotics dealer from Punjab was staying at a flat in Om Residency at Six Mile, Chachal, to receive a large consignment of narcotics for onward transmission to Punjab.

Acting on the input, the STF raided the flat and recovered 10 kg of heroin without cover. The narcotics were concealed in a red shoulder bag kept inside an almirah.

The arrested person has been identified as Hardeep Singh, 38, son of Lt Saudagar Singh, of House No 6275, near Mai Da Gurudwara, Agwar, Khwaja Baju, Jagraon, under Samrala police station in Ludhiana district of Punjab. Necessary legal measures are being taken.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the consignment had been routed through neighbouring states, with supply routes originating from Manipur.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in a social media post, lauded the operation and reaffirmed the government’s stance against illegal narcotics. He said the state police continued to take measures to disrupt illegal narcotics supply networks.

The seizure comes as part of the state’s broader action against drug trafficking networks. Earlier, the Assam government had launched state-level drug disposal and destruction campaigns involving multi-crore stocks of heroin, cannabis and methamphetamine.

State authorities have noted that Assam is frequently used as a transit corridor by cross-border cartels moving contraband from Golden Triangle supply routes through neighbouring northeastern states towards mainland markets such as West Bengal. To counter this, law enforcement agencies have increased inter-state intelligence sharing, border surveillance and coordinated operations with central agencies.
