The absconding sixth shooter in Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala’s murder case, Deepak alias Mundi, was arrested on Saturday in a joint operation by the Punjab and Delhi police, along with central agencies.

The police also arrested his accomplices Kapil Pandit and Rajinder alias Joker, who allegedly provided logistical support in the killing, including weapons and hideouts. Mundi is suspected to be the main shooter and his arrest comes 104 days after the killing that shocked the state.

Punjab DGP (officiating) Gaurav Yadav tweeted that Mundi and his associates were caught from somewhere near the Nepal border in West Bengal.

Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala, was shot dead in Punjab’s Mansa district on May 29, a day after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government pruned his security cover. Moosewala had joined the Congress in December last year ahead of the assembly elections in Punjab.

The Punjab police had identified six shooters – Priyavrat Fauji, Kashish, Ankit Sersa, Deepak Mundi, Manpreet Singh and Jagrup Singh Roopa – as part of the two modules allegedly involved in the killing.

The Delhi police special cell had nabbed Fauji, Kashish and Sersa, while the Punjab police neutralised Roopa and Manpreet in an encounter in Amritsar a few weeks ago.

Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar, who is a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang (operating from prison), had claimed responsibility for the murder.

The Brar gang had claimed on social media that the murder was to avenge last year’s killing of Akali youth leader Vicky Middukhera. The name of Shaganpreet Singh, who was said to be Moosewala’s manager, had figured in Middukhera’s murder case.

In the 1,850-page chargesheet filed in a Mansa court last month, the Punjab police had said Brar had coordinated with gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi, Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and a few others to kill Moosewala. According to the chargesheet, Brar had given the information on Moosewala’s security withdrawal to the shooters.
