Meghalaya: 5 Dead As Vehicle Falls Into Gorge On Shillong-Dawki Road
The car was on its way to Pynursla from Shillong when the driver lost control of the vehicle due to poor visibility and absence of guard wall.

In a tragic incident, five people lost their lives after their vehicle skidded off the Shillong-Dawki road and fell into a deep gorge at Rngain on National Highway 40 on Sunday (August 3) night.

The incident took place near the under-construction part of the highway. Construction work has been underway on the highway since 2023.
As per reports, police said that at around 9:02 PM, they recieved information from a passer-by that a vehicle fell into a gorge at Rngain, NH 40. It was learnt that around 9 PM, the car proceeding from Laitlyngkot towards Pynursla, went off the road and fell into the gorge at Rngain.
Meanwhile, the damaged vehicle (ML05-U-4926) and five bodies have been recovered.
Police informed that the families of the deceased were tracked from the ID recovered from the site.
