Meerut: A brutal case of suspected honour killing has shook Meerut’s Partapur after the headless body of a 17-year-old girl was discovered in a canal on Thursday morning (June 5).
The intermediate student had gone missing a day earlier from a village in Daurala, and her identity was confirmed through a chilling clue, her boyfriend’s name and mobile number written on a slip found clenched in her fist.
How slip led to victim's identification
Residents of Bahadurpur village alerted the police after spotting a mutilated torso lying in a drain. Responding officers discovered two Rs 20 notes and a slip containing the name 'Vikas' and a phone number. Upon dialling the number, authorities reached Vikas, a young man from Sadhu Ki Nagli village, who identified the deceased as his girlfriend.
The boy reportedly admitted to being in a relationship with the girl, which had met with resistance from her family. Police informed the girl’s family based on Vikas’s statement, and suspicion soon turned towards those closest to her.
Honour killing suspected, four family members in custody
According to Amar Ujala, the police have detained the girl's mother, two maternal uncles, and a cousin for questioning. Preliminary investigations suggest a gruesome case of honour killing, with officials probing whether the family conspired to end the relationship by taking her life.
“The girl’s head is yet to be recovered, and multiple police teams are searching the area. We’re also investigating the involvement of others and piecing together how the murder was executed," said SP City Ayush Vikram Singh, as quoted by NBT.
The investigation is currently ongoing.
