Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday wrote a letter to all non-BJP Chief Ministers urging them to ‘unite’ against the BJP.

Mamata also called for a meeting of the ‘progressive forces’ to discuss the strategies to take on the saffron camp.

“I urge everyone to come together for a meeting to deliberate on the way forward at a place as per everyone's convenience and suitability. Let us commit to the cause of a unified and principled opposition that will make way for the government that our country deserves,” read a part of the letter.

Claiming that BJP uses ‘central agencies’ ahead of every election, the Chief Minister urged all the non-BJP parties to resist the BJP’s ‘ill’ intention to misuse the agencies to allegedly suppress the voice of the oppositions.

“Time and again, the BJP is trying to attack the federal structure of the country by attempting to influence a certain section of the judiciary. It is amply clear that the opposition is being targeted, and the BJP-ruled states get a free pass from these agencies so that a rosy picture of their hollow governance can be painted,” the letter further letter.

The opposition slammed Mamata for the letter but political analysts are of the mind that the Chief Minister in keeping with the 2024 Lok Sabha election is trying to ‘unite’ the non BJP parties.

Senior CPI (M) leader Sujan Chakraborty said that the Chief Minister should ‘clear’ her intentions before ‘uniting’ parties.

State Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury claimed, “Mamata herself is not clear. Sometimes she urges everyone to unite against the BJP and sometimes she tries to kill Congress. She lacks credibility.”

However, BJP refused to give ‘importance’ to Mamata’s letter.
