Kuki SoO Groups In Assam Announce Dissolution Following Historic Peace Settlement

Guwahati: The Kuki Suspension of Operations (SoO) Groups in Assam on Tuesday announced the formal dissolution of their constituent organisations — the Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA), the United Kuki Defence Army (UKDA), and the Kuki Liberation Army/Kuki Liberation Organisation (KLA/KLO) — marking a significant step towards lasting peace in the region.

In a statement issued here, the groups expressed gratitude to the Central Government and the Assam Government for their continued commitment to dialogue, peace-building, and inclusive development, which culminated in the signing of a historic Memorandum of Settlement on March 15.

Describing the agreement as a “milestone in the journey towards lasting peace”, the organisations acknowledged the sustained efforts and political will of all stakeholders who worked towards making the peace initiative possible.

“In accordance with the directive of the government and the provisions of the Memorandum of Settlement, the Kuki SoO Groups of Assam hereby announce that the KRA, UKDA and KLA/KLO stand officially dissolved with immediate effect,” the statement said. It further noted that all affiliated units of the organisations have been disbanded with effect from March 23.

The groups have directed all cadres to vacate the designated camps immediately, return to their respective homes, and lead normal lives in adherence to the Constitution of India while reintegrating into society.

Calling upon their members and supporters to respect the decision, the Kuki SoO Groups urged full cooperation with the authorities to maintain peace and stability in the region. They also appealed to all sections of society to welcome this development with a spirit of unity, reconciliation, and hope for a better future.

At the same time, the groups appealed to the government to ensure that all provisions of the Memorandum of Settlement are implemented in letter and spirit, stressing that the long-term success of the peace process depends on the timely and sincere fulfilment of commitments made under the agreement.

The Kuki SoO Groups also clarified that, following the dissolution, any individual or group claiming to act in the name of the KRA, UKDA, or KLA/KLO would be considered unauthorised, and the organisations would bear no responsibility for such actions.

Reaffirming their commitment to peace, development, and the welfare of the people, the former groups expressed hope that the decision would pave the way for a more harmonious and prosperous future for all communities in the region.
